The new Hungarian government is expected to decide on restrictions on the employment of guest workers from countries outside of the European Union at a cabinet meeting in the coming week, a government spokesperson said on Monday.
Prime Minister Péter Magyar has asked the economy and energy minister and the social and family affairs minister to coordinate a discussion of the issue of work permits to non-EU nationals with the relevant ministries, spokeswoman Anita Köböl said at a press briefing after a cabinet meeting.
The aim is for guest workers to serve the needs of Hungarian businesses and to prevent the emergence of an economic model reliant on mass employment of guest workers, she added.
The government is expected to take a decision on the matter at a cabinet meeting in the coming week, Anita Köböl said.
The Prime Minister has instructed the science and technology minister, Zoltán Tanács to undertake a probe of a research and talent fostering foundation headed by Nobel Prize-winner Ferenc Krausz by the end of May and prepare to cancel HUF 261.7 billion in financing contracts it has with the state, as a result of a decoision by the previous government. The government now expects close to HUF 20 billion already transferred to the foundation to be repaid, Anita Köböl added.
