An aid shipment by the Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA) including food, hygiene products and generators has reached Bucha in Ukraine, the organization’s director said on Friday.
László Lehel, speaking from the Ukranian town of Zaporizhzhia, told state-run Hungarian Radio that the organization had been working in Transcarpathia, the Ukrainian region with substantial ethnic Hungarian population, for a long time and their activities were expanded to seven districts of Ukraine after the outbreak of the war.
The Hungarian Interchurch Aid that has been supplying aid to 208 refugee shelters in Transcarpathia opened an office in the city of Lviv and has recently also shipped aid to Kyiv and surrounding areas, he added.
He said that on Thursday they visited Bucha, Irpiny and Borogyanka and were warmly welcomed. He highlighted that 24 tons of aid had been brought to Bucha, where reconstruction had begun in small steps, although shops were not open, the bank was not working and there were only 4-6,000 of the 50,000 inhabitants in the town. He pointed out that in addition to food and hygiene products, generators have been brought into the town to provide electricity and water.
