Hungary's national football side lost 3-0 away to Romania in Europe's qualifying Group D of the 2014 football World Cup. This defeat significantly reduces Hungarian chances to finish at least second in the group, a place in the play-off stage.

Taking advantage pf defensive error, Romania took an early lead through Ciprian Marica. Hungary was not able to put up serious resistance and conceded a second goal in the 38 minute when Mihai Pintilii swerved the ball into the upper left corner of the Hungarian goal from 23 meters out.

The second half was no better, either, for Hungary and if keeper Ádám Bogdán does not pull off a few fine saves, the result could have been catastrophic. Eventually, it was Cristian Tanase who put an end to the match with a shot nto the lower right corner.

With this victory, Romania overtook Hungary in the Group D table to step forward to the second place. Next Tuesday Hungary plays Estonia in Budapest.
