The EU’s statistical office, Eurostat has published the inflation rankings in the European Union, which shows that in October, inflation was higher in only two countries than in Hungary, portfolio.hu reports.
The annual inflation rate in Hungary was 21.9%, almost double the EU average of 11.5%.
The lowest inflation was recorded in France in October, with a rise of 7.1%. Spain followed with 7.3%.
The highest inflation was again recorded in the Baltic countries, with Estonia and Lithuania recording annual inflation of 22.5% and 22.1% respectively in October. Hungary's inflation rate of 21.9% is just slightly under those in the top two places.
Latvian price inflation (21.7% per year) still closely follows that of Hungary, but after that there is a relatively big gap: the fifth highest inflation was measured in the Netherlands, with 16.8% per year. Poland recorded 16.4%, the Czech Republic 15.5% and Slovakia 14.5%.
