Mask wearing Obligation Abolished in Hungary

Unlike in other countries, tightening or easing pandemic restrictions are tied by the Hungarian government to the number vaccinated people. As this number has reached 5.5 million, the obligation to wear a mask has been abolished.

The lifting of protection measures that come into force this Saturday are as follows:

Masks will no longer have to be worn in shops and on public transport, only in hospitals and social services.

It is now possible to enter catering establishments, accommodation, leisure facilities, and cultural events and performances with pre-booked tickets and seating without protection certificate.

Restrictions on shops aree abolished: there is no distance rule and no limit on the number of persons per square meter.

For family events and private functions, the previous limit of 50 people has been increased to 100, and for weddings, the limit of 200 increased to 400.

No relaxation for sporting events, music and dance events and other events held indoors or outdoors with more than 500 participants: the number limit and the requirement to have a pass will remain.

Under-18s are also only allowed to attend these events with a protection certificate or under the supervision of a protected person.
