6,768 people entered Hungary at the Ukrainian-Hungarian border on Saturday, while 6,380 of those entering the Romanian-Hungarian border said they had arrived from Ukraine, the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) told the state news agency MTI on Sunday.
Of those who entered, the police issued 372 people with temporary residence permits valid for 30 days. They will have to visit the office of the National Directorate General for Aliens of their place of residence to obtain the permanent documents, they said.
On Saturday, 79 people – including 33 children – arrived in Budapest by train, fleeing the war in Ukraine, the ORFK said.
The Budapest Police Headquarters said on police.hu that it was assisting, together with the Standby Police, refugees arriving by train from Ukraine. The Budapest Civil Guard Association is also providing support in this task.
They are in constant contact with the National Directorate General for Disaster Management, the National Directorate General for Aliens, the Hungarian State Railways, the Budapest Transport Centre, the Budapest Municipal Police Directorate, the Government Office of Budapest and the staff of aid organizations, the statement said.
