The popular western Hungarian spa town of Bük will turn into a real dog paradise after Nestlé Hungária's PURINA division launches the program ‘Dog-friendly Bük’ in cooperation with the local authorities and local entrepreneurs.
A statement by the company says that in Hungary and globally, pets are gaining ground in tourism. More and more people are choosing to go on holiday with their dogs, undoubtedly due to the fact that the majority of people consider their pets as family members, as confirmed by a representative survey conducted by Nestlé PURINA in April 2020.
"Pets also play an active role in their owners' leisure time, which is why we decided to make life easier and more meaningful for owners and their pets who come to Bük," Arthur van Raalte, Nestlé PURINA's factory manager in Bük is quoted in the press release. He adds that this is particularly relevant as the town of 3,500 inhabitants, home to PURINA's cat and dog food factory and known mainly for its spa, is just behind the Hungarian league table in terms of nights spent in commercial accommodation.
"In recent years, the town of Bük has become an even more important tourist destination, with a significant number of guests arriving with their pets. We would like to make their lives easier with the Dog Friendly Bük program, which today includes the inauguration of the new dog playground and dog run at the renovated campsite." That is according to Mayor Sándor Németh, who hopes that the Dog Friendly Bük initiative will attract more guests to the town.
The Dog Friendly Bük program was launched by Nestlé Hungária in cooperation with the town council and local entrepreneurs. The initiative will make ten restaurants and five hotels in the spa town dog-friendly, where the restaurants will be ready to welcome four-legged tourists and advise their owners on how to accustom their pets to the new environment for a carefree stay together. As part of the program, a fully equipped dog run has been built in the spa's renovated campsite, and the opportunity to join is open to other local businesses in the tourism industry.
