The Hungarian Chip Competence Center (HCHiP), a consortium of researchers, engineers and industry partners, that aims to connect local innovation to Europe's technology ecosystem, announced its launch with EUR 7.9 million in funding in a statement on Tuesday. The creation of the consortium is supported by EU funds.
HCHiP is led by the Bay Zoltan Applied Research Nonprofit and the consortium members are the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) and the HUN-REN Center for Energy Research.
According to the statement, HCHiP will strengthen European technological sovereignty, expand local innovation capacities and boost value added in the semiconductor value chain.
HCHiP will join the European Union's Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU) network, which is funding half of its budget. The other half is from the National R+D+I Office.
