One of the world's largest biotechnology companies and Hungary's first university have concluded a cooperation agreement in Pécs, S Hungary. The contract was signed by Roche Hungary Ltd. CEO Raffaella Claudia Bondi, the Commercial Director of Roche's Diagnostics Division, Adrienn Kiss and the Rector of the University, Professor Attila Miseta.
Roche Magyarország Ltd. is a member of the Swiss, family-owned Roche Group, whose research has been driven by the goal of improving health for more than 100 years, while the Clinical Center of the University of Pécs is the health center of the South Transdanubian region, where more than one and a half million people are examined and treated annually. As a result, the two institutions have already cooperated in a number of areas, but this agreement formalizes and takes their partnership to an even higher level.
The cooperation was welcomed by Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Regional Development, who said that "this partnership is an excellent example of the high level of scientific and industrial cooperation we are capable of. A cooperation that benefits not only the institutions and companies involved, but also society and the economy."
Commenting on the cooperation, Swiss Ambassador Jean-François Paroz pointed out that this clinical research not only ensures that Hungarian patients have access to the most innovative treatments, but also saves the Hungarian healthcare system HUF billions in expenditure every year.
Commenting on the signing ceremony, Raffaella Claudia Bondi said that "as an innovative healthcare company, our aim is to develop the Hungarian healthcare system through collaborations like this, so that the Hungarian people can access the best care in the most efficient and fastest way."
Professor Attila Miseta added in his welcome speech that "we are proud that one of the world's largest biotechnology companies has found our university worthy of partnership and cooperation. This proves that our researchers and lecturers have the professional qualities to compete with the world's best."
Pécs mayor Attila Péterffy stressed that he was "very pleased that the University of Pécs is able to further strengthen its network of relations between the pharmaceutical industry and the leading companies in the diagnostics sector. I am confident that the Swiss company with its long history will find a worthy partner in the researchers and staff of the University of Pécs. On the part of the Municipality of Pécs, we warmly support any similar cooperation. I am convinced that not only the university, but also the city will benefit from such cooperation. It will be enriched with new knowledge, new contacts, and thus a new attraction."
