Olympic, three-time world and six-time European champion gymnast Krisztián Berki announced his retirement at an online press conference of the Hungarian Gymnastics Federation (MATSZ).
At the age of 35, Krisztián Berki decided not to compete anymore. He is Olympic gold medalist (2012, London), three-time world champion (2010, 2011, 2014), two-time World Cup silver medalist (2007, 2009), six-time European champion (2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012), three-time European Championship silver medalist (2013, 2014, 2017), European Championship bronze medalist (2004) and Universiade winner (2009).
He justified his current decision with years of injury. His shoulder has had to be operated on five times so far.
"I thought a lot last year about how to proceed, and already in 2019, at the World Championships in Stuttgart - I was there at that competition, but only helped the Hungarian national team as a fan, as I was injured again a few days before the trip. Then, I couldn’t say it was over, it’s not easy to say it now, but I have to say it," he said.
