The Hungarian women's water polo team has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics by beating host nation Italy 13-10 this Saturday at the Olympic qualification tournament in Trieste.
In the semifinal of the competition organized by the international aquatics federation FINA, the Hungarians took a 3-0 lead early in the match and later increased it to 5-1.
However, the Italians closed ranks and narrowed the gap first to 5-3 at half time and then to 7-6 in the third quarter. The Hungarian team began the last quarter with a two-goal lead (9-7) that eventually grew to three. The top scorer of the game was Hungary's Rita Keszhelyi with six goals.
The final of the tournament (with nothing more than prestige at stake) will be against the Netherlands who also qualified for the Olympics on Saturday by defeating Greece 7-4.
