In connection with the official visit of the President of the Republic of Slovenia and his accompanying delegation to Hungary, the Slovenian Tourism Organization (STO) introduced Slovenia as a nearby, green and safe gastro-tourism destination.
Given the good epidemiological situation in Slovenia, which was the first in Europe to declare the end of the epidemic, and in view of the growing interest, the Slovenian Tourism Organization is stepping up its promotion activities abroad, especially in the nearest, neighboring countries.
At the presentation on the green terrace of the Castle Garden Bazaar in Budapest, Slovene officials pointed out that Hungary is one of the fastest growing markets for Slovenian tourism. Due to the diverse and sustainable supply, security, proximity and unhindered border crossing between the two countries, they are confident of revenue growth in the coming months of the year as well.
A member of the delegation for the official visit, Zdravko Pocivalsek, Minister of Economy and Technological Development, stressed on one occasion that tourism could face serious consequences due to the temporary cessation of international travel, the closure of accommodation and hospitality. He said that the epidemiological situation requires those working in tourism to ensure strict hygiene rules, and compliance with these can be an important factor in the selection of a tourist destination. “Already in 2017, in its tourism development strategy document, Slovenia clearly marked green, sustainable and responsible development as the basis for Slovenian tourism, which in the current situation will certainly be good for the competitiveness of Slovenian tourism. As a green, healthy and active country that is also preferred among the lovers of top quality gastronomy, it is certainly sought after in this respect as well," the minister said, also highlighting the country' s advantages, which made tourists choose Slovenia: "Due to its picturesque nature, rich cultural heritage, attractive tourist products and excellent gastronomy, Slovenia is an excellent destination for tourists who are looking for a five-star experience and primarily want a healthy and safe holiday."
STO Director Maja Pák highlighted the large-scale growth in the number of those coming from the Hungarian market: "Hungarian tourists are in 7th place among foreigners visiting Slovenia with a share of 4.3%. In 2019, there were 190,944 Hungarian tourists in Slovenia, which is 5.6% more than in 2018, and they spent almost half a million nights. In addition to active recreation in the mountains, Hungarian guests are also interested in culture, cities and gastronomy, which - with regard to Slovenia as a European Gastronomic Region of 2021, as well as the recently acquired Michelin stars - provides opportunities in recognizing the country as a culinary destination."
