As an experiment, illuminated particles were mixed into the pavement of the Danube bicycle path on a distance of 230 meters at Esztergom.
Thanks to the technical solution, it is more convenient and safer to use the otherwise unlit road in the evening and at night. Cyclists can easily follow the trail after sunset and before sunrise, according to the Ministry of Innovation and Technology.
Depending on the number of hours of sunshine, the particles glow at a higher brightness for 5-6 hours and make the road more visible even after that. Using innovative technology, it is possible to save on the cost of installing public lighting, on energy consumption of lamps and light pollution.
In order to find out the ideal ratio, the constructors mixed different sizes and quantities of particles into the road material on each section. Work began in mid-October and was completed within a few weeks, so a test run of the pilot investment could begin. In the coming months, specialists will constantly monitor the development of the quality of the road surface in the winter cold and frosts.
