Summer passenger numbers at the Hungarian capital’s Ferenc Liszt International are expected to climb over last year's 5.5 million, Francois Berisot, the CEO of the operator company Budapest Airport, told journalists on Friday.
Forty-nine airlines are offering flights to 166 destinations from this airport this summer, Francois Berisot is quoted by MTI, highlighting new direct flights to Philadelphia and Toronto.
He also underscored improvements to check-in and security screening as well as shorter turnaround times in cooperation with ground services.
Cargo turnover is up 15% so far this year, the CEO added.
Fielding questions, Francois Berisot stated the airport's old Terminal 1 had played "a positive role" in managing increased turnover during the football Champions League final in Budapest, but added that a permanent re-opening was not expected.
He said passenger turnover was up 3% so far in 2026, noting the impact on air travel of the conflict in the Middle East. At the same time, he pointed out that there was no shortage of aviation fuel, at present, at the airport.
