Ferenc Liszt International Airport reached its highest passenger volume in two years in May, with passenger traffic exceeding one million during the fifth month of the year, according to the latest airport bulletin published by the airport management company Budapest Airport.
To be precise, 1,095,597 passengers used Budapest’s main airport in May, an increase of 1,130% compared to the same period in 2021. There are currently direct flights from Budapest to 125 airports in 114 cities, served by 34 airlines. In May, the most popular destinations were London, Paris, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam and Frankfurt, but Barcelona and Munich were also very popular.
Despite the negative international trends, cargo traffic at Ferenc Liszt International Airport remained stable in May at more than 15,000 tons per month. In the first five months of the year, the airport handled 84,000 tons of air cargo in total, a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2021.
The bulletin also says that Ferenc Liszt International Airport has achieved a high score in the ASQ international passenger satisfaction survey for the second quarter, largely due to improvements in terminal management. The average waiting time for security screening is always under 15 minutes, thanks in part to the fact that small electrical devices do not need to be removed from hand baggage before screening. The speed of the check-in process at the airport is also supported by the 24 bag tag printers located in the departure halls of Terminals 2A and 2B. Ryanair passengers can now check in at both terminals from May, and Budapest Airport’s terminal information staff are also on hand, to help ensure quick passage through the airport.
