In November, the slowdown in traffic at Budapest's Ferenc Liszt International Airport, which started in October, continued; after 80-81% in the summer, the airport’s passenger traffic reached only 76% of the 2019 level in the eleventh month of the year, which means that 969,888 passengers used the airport in November, the airport's management company Budapest Airport reports in its latest bulletin.
This means that Budapest Airport registered a total of 11,200,319 passengers in 11 months, 186 % more than in 2021. The airport operator is expecting over 12 million passengers this year and 14 million next year, two million less than under the previous forecast. The expected decline is due to the economic slowdown, inflation and the tax on airlines.
However, cargo growth continues unabated in Budapest; Budapest Airport handled 17 635 tons of air cargo in November, 8.1% more than in October. The increase is due to rising demand in the run-up to Christmas, but the year-on-year volume growth also reached 8.1 %; until the end of November, Budapest Airport handled 178,362 tons of cargo this year, up from 164,957 tons last year.
