The gloomy winter is over, spring is here and this is visible in the passenger numbers of Budapest’s Ferenc Liszt International Airport as well: it handled 176,000 more passengers in March compared to February, according to a statement by the management company Budapest Airport.
With the arrival of the good weather, the propensity to travel continued to grow in March, with passenger figures for the third month of 2022 already exceeding 796,000. Compared to February passenger data, this is an increase of almost 30%, while passenger numbers are up 1,170% compared to the same period last year.
The number of destinations available from the Ferenc Liszt International Airport has reached more than 80% of the pre-pandemic level. There are currently 91 cities with direct flights from Budapest, offered by 29 airlines. Compared to 2019, several previously unavailable cities are now included in Budapest Airport’s schedule, including Abu Dhabi, Aqaba, Kaunas, Lappeenranta, Malta, Shannon and Turin. Based on passenger traffic data, the most popular destinations in March were Tel Aviv, London and Dubai.
In March, the BUD Cargo City again handled a significant volume of air cargo. In the third month of the year, 19,786 tons of cargo passed through Budapest Airport’s cargo handling base, which is an increase of 32.8% compared to the same period last year.
