The number of MOL Bubi bike trips has exceeded six million, the Budapest Transport Center (BKK) told MTI on Wednesday.
They wrote that the capital's residents have doubled the number of MOL Bubi trips in less than a year.
They said that in the past year, the system added around 800 bicycles, new stations were built in Terézváros, Óbuda, Zugló and the City Park, and popular concert venues were made available.
Bubis can be picked up and dropped off at 197 locations in the capital, and after the July expansion, 2,460 bikes are now available to customers.
They said that the public bus system was renewed in the spring of 2021, and since then the popularity of BKK's public bus service has been unbroken. According to BKK, the MOL Bubi has had a significant impact on the attitude of the capital's residents. They wrote that more and more people are realizing that cycling is popular for a reason. It is convenient, economical and often faster than driving in traffic jams, especially when combined with traditional public transport. In Budapest, thanks in large part to the indirect impact of MOL Bubi, more and more people are using their own bicycles, the statement said.
