Passenger traffic at the Ferenc Liszt International Airport of the Hungarian capital remained stable in April; the airport handled 1,675,522 passengers, representing a 0.7% increase compared to the same period last year, the airport operator Budapest Airport says in a statement. In the first four months of the year, a total of 5,831,907 passengers passed through the airport, 2.8% more than between January and April 2025.

The cargo business continues to expand dynamically. In April, the airport handled 38,495 tons of cargo, representing a 17.5% increase compared to April of last year. Between January and April, a total of 147,059 tons of cargo arrived in or departed from Budapest by air, exceeding the result for the same period last year by 15.6%.

In April, the most popular destinations included London, Milan, Istanbul, Paris and Rome.

Budapest Airport currently forecasts passenger numbers exceeding 20 million for this year; however, aviation – and thus, passenger traffic – can be influenced by a multitude of factors. It is currently too early to fully assess what impact the Middle East crisis will have on global aviation, and specifically on the operations of Budapest Airport, but regardless of the conflict in the Middle East, the fundamentals for growth this year are strong, as the airport operator has placed great emphasis on diversification and airline partnerships over the past two years.

Following the recent period, several airlines have reported a surge in demand for destinations within Europe, which will probably also positively affect Budapest, as a popular city destination, according to the operator’s statement.
