Hungarian low-fare carrier Wizz Air is expanding its base in Budapest, adding an 18th aircraft in May, CEO József Váradi said at an online press conference on Tuesday. Next year, the airline will increase its capacity on Hungarian routes by 900,000 to 9.1 million seats, with new destinations including Bergen, Lamezia Terme, and Rimini.
Wizz Air will offer 75 routes from Hungary to 35 countries, of which 59 will be available year-round, 13 will be summer destinations, and 3 will be winter destinations. Wizz Air's fleet will soon reach 250 aircraft, the CEO added.
Management has begun to restructure the route network and the company's operations, focusing on Central and Eastern Europe. As part of this, the bases in Chisinau and Tuzla are being reopened, new ones have been/are being opened in Yerevan, as well as at secondary airports in Warsaw and Bucharest (Modlin and Baneasa), and in Podgorica and Bratislava, the Slovak capital, with the transfer of capacity from Vienna.
