Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Budapest this Tuesday. Topics of discussion included strengthening economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of industry, agriculture and transport.
Following their meeting, the heads of government held a joint press conference, after which they both addressed a Hungarian-Turkish business forum in the afternoon.
Hungarian President János Áder also received the Turkish Prime Minister at the Sándor Palace in the Buda Castle and during the day, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a lecture at Eötvös Loránd University.
Turkey is Hungary’s sixth most important non EU-member commercial partner; bilateral trade relations have quadrupled between 2002 and 2011. In 2011, the value of Turkish investments in Hungary equalled 3.7 million euros, with approximately 300 Turkish companies operating in the country.
