Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi sent a letter of condolence to US Secretary of State John Kerry, in which he condemned the bomb blasts on April 15 and expressed his deep sympathy to the victims of the tragic attacks, their families and the people of Boston, Massachusetts.
The letter says “Hungary condemns in the strongest possible terms yesterday's explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. There cannot be any reasonable explanation for this disgraceful attack against the participants and the spectators of a popular sporting event.
We are deeply saddened by the death and injury of so many innocent people and our thoughts are with their families and friends. As an ally of the United States, Hungary stands with the people of Boston and is confident that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will soon be brought to justice.”
According to a communiqué issued by the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, given the circumstances of the incident, it is conceivable that the explosion at the Boston Marathon was a planned terrorist attack. Hungary firmly condemns all forms of terrorism and, as an ally of the United States, remains committed to continuing the struggle against terrorism.
Hungarian president János Áder also condemned the attack in a communiqué. "There is no - and there cannot be - acceptable explanation for a shameful attack against the participants of a running race," he wrote.
