The European Commission's meetings with the incoming Hungarian government have been "constructive and positive in tone", and a useful starting point "for the work that now needs to happen, particularly to unblock funds for the benefit of the Hungarian people," EC Deputy Chief Spokesperson Olof Gill told a daily press conference in Brussels on Monday.
Quoted by MTI, Olof Gill called the EC delegation's visit to Hungary over the weekend an important first point of contact.
The EC is in contact with the incoming Hungarian government, working to achieve progress on a number of issues that had been "stuck in place", Olof Gill said.
In response to question on restarting deliveries on the Druzhba pipeline, Olof Gill said that the EC was monitoring the situation closely, "as we always have", and is in contact with all concerned parties to facilitate the resumption of deliveries.
"We will continue engagement with all sides so that things will continue moving in the right direction," Olof Gill said.
"Finally, I should also recall that the Commission has called on all member states to honour their commitments given at the last, December Council [meeting], as regards the loan for Ukraine," Olof Gill added.
In response to question on delays of the assessment of Hungary's plans regarding the SAFE credit line for defence development, spokesman Thomas Regnier said: "I firmly rebut that … it has been blocked for political reasons… We have not blocked any SAFE plan." While some plans needed revision, they are not being blocked, he added.
