Hungary's Dániel Gyurta has won the men's 200-meter breaststroke event at the 30th Summer Olympic Games in London this Wednesday. This is Hungary's fourth medal at the 2012 Games after a gold in fencing and a silver and a bronze in judo.
2009 and 2011 world champion Gyurta clocked 2 minutes, 07.28 seconds, a world record time, improving Australian Christian Sprengler’s record, set almost exactly two years ago, by 0.03 seconds. Gyurta beat local favorite Michael Jamieson and Ryo Tatieshi of Japan to win his first Olympic title.
This Hungary’s second gold medal at this year’s Olympics. The first one was won by Áron Szilágyi in men’s individual saber fencing. In judo, Miklós Ungvári took second place in the men’s 66-kilogram category, while Éva Csernoviczki in the women’s 48-kilogram category. That puts Hungary in 12th position the medal table of the Games after Wednesday, the 5th official day of competition.
