Nearly one hundred seniors participated in the joint Senior Academy program organized by Provident Financial Ltd. and Semmelweis University in Szolnok. The goal of the event was once again to provide the older generation with practical knowledge to help them manage financial, health, and digital challenges, thereby contributing to their sense of security and independence in daily life, Provident Hungary says in a statement.
At the event held in the City Hall’s Ceremonial Hall, participants gained practical knowledge that can directly assist them in their daily decisions – whether regarding finances, health maintenance, or recognizing scams.
The program was organized by the Szolnok Municipal Government as part of an open meeting of the City Council on Senior Affairs. The event opened with a welcome address by the mayor, followed by a briefing for participants on the city’s current development projects.
One of the most important goals of the Senior Academy is to ensure that the older generation is not left alone to face the challenges they encounter day after day in the modern world. The spread of online and telephone scams, increasingly complex financial situations, and even the proper use of medications are all areas where reliable, understandable assistance can provide real security.
In his presentation, László Sulyok, Senior Head of Sales and Customer Experience at Provident Financial Ltd., spoke about how financial literacy is not just about money, but also about maintaining independence. “Many people think that financial literacy is a topic for the younger generation, yet it may be even more important for older adults. If someone handles an unexpected situation with greater confidence, recognizes deceptive offers, or makes more informed decisions, this can mean not only financial security but also greater peace of mind and independence in everyday life,” he said.
The issue of health maintenance also played a prominent role in the program. In his presentation, Dr. Magor Papp, director of the Health Promotion Center at Semmelweis University and a family physician, highlighted the importance of proper medication use and prevention, emphasizing that many health problems could be prevented with adequate information and conscious attention.
What made the event particularly valuable for participants was that after the presentations, they could ask the experts questions in person, share their own experiences, and receive practical advice that could be immediately incorporated into their daily lives.
The Provident Senior Academy series continues nationwide, with the goal of providing the older generation not only with information, but also with genuine support and a sense of community.
