The Hungarian oil and gas company Mol is supporting the sustainable operation of the Csepel Center of the Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA) with a HUF 20 million solar park, the aid organization said at a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday.
At the announcement, it was also emphasized that the relief organization aims to cover the energy supply of the social institutions it operates as fully as possible through renewable energies.
Mol started cooperating with the HIA in the early 2000s, the Deputy CEO of the company Oszkár Világi, recalled. He added that this is a "fruitful relationship" that has "concrete results." A recent example of this is the system of 94 solar panels installed on the building of the Csepel Social and Development Center, which will completely replace the annual electricity consumption of the institution, costing HUF millions, and includes the installation of a 40.42 kWp solar power plant, the related electrical works, and the extension and modernization of the electrical network, he said.
"This solar park is about a major item that will now be taken out of the organization’s budget: they will no longer have to pay for electricity," Oscar Világi added. He noted that it is important for them to always find a form of support that provides concrete, tangible help to the aid organization, and that it is also a matter of particular importance to Mol, such as their energy efficiency project.
At the same time, the Mol official assured the aid organization that they would continue their support, because it is a great pleasure for them to stand by an organization that helps the needy. The "good deed deserves to be supported", Oskar Világi said, indicating that they will continue to support the relief organization.
The president and director of the Hungarian Interchurch Aid, László Lehel, said that the social and development center in Csepel, which also helps families in crisis and refugees from Ukraine, saves HUF 14-15 million on overheads. The organization can use this money to support families in need, he said. He thanked Mol Hungary, calling sustainability a shared value.
