Traffic at Ferenc Liszt International Airport dropped significantly, by more than 90% during the first two weeks of September, compared to August, as a result of the travel restrictions introduced from September 1, 2020.
A bulletin by the management company Budapest Airport states that currently, the number of aircraft movements, i.e. takeoffs and landings, is around 120 per day, which is less than 30% of the average number of flights registered last September. Budapest Airport expects a reduction in excess of 90% for September as a whole, compared to the same period in 2019.
Several airlines indicated that they are planning to reduce operations during the next month as well, due to the sudden drop in demand. This means that an 80-90 drop in traffic is expected in October as well.
