Bosch to Set Up Future-proof Automotive Center

The foundation stone of Bosch’s new building complex of 3,500 sqm has been laid in Zalaegerszeg, SW Hungary. The facility that will be home to 200 engineers tasked to research and test technology related to autonomous driving, e-mobility and artificial intelligence (AI), the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency reports.

The EUR 11.4 million project, close to 30% of which is covered by Hungarian taxpayers through a government decision, will be executed right next to ZalaZone, Hungary’s trademark proving ground for cutting edge mobility solutions.

Bosch Group has been using significant resources to conduct R&D in Hungary, and as a result some 4,000 employees are involved in this field. The company’s sites in Miskolc and Maklár, both in NE Hungary, host related activities. After the recent opening of Bosch Budapest Innovation Campus, the groundbreaking of a brand-new center in Zalaegerszeg took place with the purpose of setting up a hub for testing and developing future-proof mobility technology, in particular self-driving, e-mobility and AI.

Up to 200 engineers will be on board once the R&D center is up and running. At their disposal will be a 2,000 sq m office building and a workshop of 1,500 sq m, the latter being a venue to test vehicles with both internal combustion and electric engines. The specialists will mainly focus on improving advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and working on different aspects of autonomous driving.

The investment will take place next to ZalaZone, a proving ground that serves as a global benchmark for testing self-driving solutions in a 5G environment.
