IKEA Hungary achieved a turnover of HUF 130 billion in the financial year 2022, an increase of almost 20% compared to the previous year, while online sales grew at an even higher rate of 34%, the home furnishing chain told MTI on Thursday.
The stores welcomed 3.5 million shoppers, while the share of online shopping was 21.6%, with nearly one in five shoppers choosing to order online.
They said that IKEA Hungary achieved a good result thanks to its 1,730 co-workers, despite a challenging year last year. The IKEA.hu website registered 12.7 million unique visitors, 66% of them from mobile devices. The IKEA Family club also continued to grow, with more than 1.2 million members by the end of the financial year, they said.
IKEA's goal is to have 25% of deliveries of its home delivery products made by electric vehicles. The company is committed to sustainability and is continuously working to achieve this. IKEA will purchase 18 new electric vehicles this year in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.
IKEA plans to open a design studio in Debrecen in the first half of 2023. The staff will offer interior design advice and support customers during the ordering process.
A new shopping process, called scan and buy, will be introduced in the first quarter. Shoppers will be able to scan items into their shopping trolley while shopping using the IKEA app and then simply pay for them. This will help them avoid queuing in front of the checkout.
The IKEA brand is owned by several companies with several owners. IKEA was founded in Sweden in 1943. With retail operations in 32 markets, the Ingka Group is the largest IKEA retailer and accounts for 90% of IKEA's retail sales. The Ingka Group owns and operates the IKEA distribution channels under franchise agreements with Inter IKEA Systems B.V.
