With more than one hundred and fifty programs in thirty venues, the Budapest Autumn Festival is a renewed event in the capital between September 26 and October 10.
The Hungarian news agency MTI quotes, Erzsébet Gy. Németh, the Deputy Mayor of Budapest responsible for the human fields as saying at the festival's press conference in Budapest on Thursday that "culture does not think in closed forms, it is part of experimentation, movement and change. We need to reopen the boxes of doubt and creation, we need to give freedom a content that is appropriate to the times," she said.
The festival's theme 'Who are we, Budapesters?' will be answered by the artists with dense reflections and moving emotions. She stressed that politics must ensure access to culture for all. It should not put walls and borders in front of culture, but let art break them down.
The festival, which was launched 30 years ago by the Municipality of Budapest, is being organised by Budapest Brand Nonprofit Co. Ltd.
Máté Gáspár, the festival's programme director, pointed out that about two thirds of the more than one hundred and fifty events of the event will take place in non-traditional performing arts venues, and the public will also be able to enjoy programs in Budapest's public spaces and in unusual venues. To help visitors find their way around, different itineraries will be offered, with themed itineraries reflecting the diverse needs of the city's inhabitants. There will be programs for dreamers and others for people who want to participate.
Csaba Faix, CEO of Budapest Brand Nonprofit Co. Ltd . said that the festival has been rethought. Their aim is to take culture out of the marble halls and into the public spaces, among the people, and to engage the city.
The programs they organize in the four districts are based on local characteristics. The organizers of the festival, which will offer a wide range of additional programmes throughout the city, are keen to involve more districts in the cooperation over the years, the organisers emphasized.
The festival's opening concert will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of renowned film director Miklós Jancsó at the Városmajor Open-Air Stage. FreeSzemle at the Marczibányi Téri Cultural Center and a staff reminiscence at the FUGA will commemorate the filmmaker's personality and spirit with performances, discussions and screenings.
