The method of skill development worked out by the best female player in chess history, Judit Polgár, will be taught and used by teachers in Nagykanizsa, SW Hungary, and its region from September, who will be trained next week, courtesy of the multiple champion chess team of Nagykanizsa.
Tamás Nádasi, president of the Tuxera Aquaprofit Nagykanizsa Chess Club, recalled at the press conference this Saturday that the now 14-time champion club "brought back to Hungarian chess" Judit Polgár with whom they had organized chess festivals for years. These attracted a lot of children, which gave the Olympic chess champion the idea that there was a need to educate young people.
The future instructors of the Chess Palace Skills Development Program will be trained next week in Nagykanizsa, with 32 teachers from 12 primary schools in the city and the region applying.
Tamás Nádasi added that the teachers will not teach chess but will use a skill-building method in their lessons, which will help them to develop skills such as logic, reading comprehension, coordination and orientation.
Szabolcs Szakacsits, the main sponsor and vice-president of the chess team, spoke about his 22 years in Finland, where he set up a company working with the world's largest technology companies. He has recently moved back to Nagykanizsa and wants to give something back to his hometown, which is why he is keen to sponsor chess players and support young talent.
Judit Polgár's method is free of charge for teachers and the costs are covered by her foundation and the Nagykanizsa Chess Club. The teaching method, which is also supported by the state, is important because it teaches children to cooperate, to debate intelligently and to communicate. It was said that the method of developing the skills of children aged between four and ten is already attracting interest from kindergartens in Nagykanizsa, so it could be extended to them in the future.
