Hungarian industrial solar power generation reached a new historic record on February 21, with 2,030.5 megawatts (MW) of energy produced by industrial-scale solar power plants at the midday peak, breaking the previous record of 1,953 MW set on February 10, the Hungarian Independent Transmission Operator Co. Ltd. (MAVIR) said on its website.

According to the information, half of the country's electricity system load, roughly 2,300 megawatts, was covered by renewable energy generation in the same period. Record solar generation accounted for 43.8% of the total renewables.

The peak solar capacity of 2,030.5 MW also exceeded the total installed capacity of the Paks nuclear power plant, 2,026.6 MW, the system operator said.

The import-export balance was negative for several hours during the midday period, i.e. the country exported between 15 and 355 MW, MAVIR pointed out.
