Assets under management in investment funds increased in Hungary by 3.2%, or HUF 382 billion, to HUF 12,296 billion in August, the Association of Investment Fund Managers and Asset Managers of Hungary (BAMOSZ) told MTI on Monday.
The statement highlighted that the resulting capital flows in investment funds last month showed a plus of HUF 340 billion. Capital inflows were recorded in most categories, with bond funds being particularly strong.
Bond funds saw fresh capital inflows of HUF 224.6 billion, with returns also contributing to asset growth. The net asset value of the largest asset class increased by 6.5% by the end of the month, crossing the HUF 4,000 billion mark to HUF 4,231 billion.
Real estate funds added HUF 35.5 billion in August, largely due to the launch of a new series. Returns in real estate funds were also to be expected now, with assets in the second largest category growing by 2.5% to HUF 1,951 billion as a result of returns and price movements. The statement noted that in 2-3 months the assets of the category could reach 2,000 billion.
Money market funds added HUF 14 billion to their assets, and the category's assets grew by 3.7% to HUF 7,251 billion, also thanks to returns.
Equity funds saw inflows of HUF 7.3 billion last month. Share prices did not perform well, so overall equity fund assets fell by 1.7% to HUF 786 billion.
Mixed funds lost 34.7 billion, but this was only a technical outflow due to category changes, they said.
Assets in the category fell 1.8% to HUF 1,687 billion during the month.
Only HUF 0.28 billion of capital was added to commodity funds, but returns were positive, with assets up 2% to HUF 80.3 billion.
Closed-end funds, which primarily manage assets of institutional investors, saw capital outflows of nearly HUF 8.7 billion last month, with assets in this category falling by 0.1% to HUF 1,268 billion at the end of the month.
BAMOSZ is the association representing the domestic fund and asset management industry, with 25 members managing a total of HUF 15,700 billion in assets, including some HUF 12,300 billion in investment funds.
