Hungarians in fighting contact in Afghanistan

In the morning of December15, soldiers of the Hungarian-American Military Advisory Team (MAT) came into fighting contact in Afghanistan’s Kilagaj region. The night before, the MAT-base was attacked by rocket fire.

The conflict, in which 21 MAT troops and two squadrons of the Afghan National Army (ANA) took part, did not result in any injuries on the part of the Hungarian soldiers. During the firefights, the MAT group requested and received air support.

The Military Advisory Team, made up by Hungarian and American troops, currently has about 40 Hungarians serving in it. The group's main task is mentoring one of the ANA battalions.
