Approximately 10,600 people took part in a national coronavirus screening test launched two weeks ago with the participation of four Hungarian medical training universities and the country’s Central statistical Office (CSO), the results of which thus became representative. The outcome: very low average rate of infection.
The Statistical Office selected 17,787 people for the national H-UNCOVER screening program so that the sample would be representative for all regions of Hungary and for all ages over 14 years, excluding those living in elderly homes or institutions with over 20 people. Based on the first summary of participation data, a sufficient number of citizens went to the national screening survey – 67.3% of those invited nationwide, about 10,600, participated in the survey. They provide a sufficiently accurate estimate of the number of infected and re-infected. The highest participation rate, over 75%, was in Veszprém, Nógrád and Pest counties, while the best performing county seat, Salgótarján, had a 77% participation.
Although, the final results are yet to be announced, experts agree that mass infection did not occur, institutional infections account for a significant proportion of cases.
