Three municipalities in Bács-Kiskun County have won almost HUF one billion forints for three tourism developments from the European Union's Operational Program for Regional and Local Development (TOP) Plus.
HUF 659 millions will be used to renovate the section of the cycle path between Deák Ferenc Street and the local spa in Kiskunmajsa. On the one hand, the bicycle lane will be widened, making it possible to designate an undivided footpath and bicycle path. In addition, the section will be made safer with the installation of solar panels and a rest area with a bicycle service point.
Bugac has been awarded HUF 207 million for the second phase of the Golden Monastery, which is under construction. An outdoor stage, the so-called Monks' Garden and a footpath will be built next to the visitor center, which will showcase the settlement from the time of the Magyar conquest of the Carpathian basin and the local monastery. Building on the medicinal and herbal plants of the Monks' Garden, new activities will be added to the program of the visitor center, which will open in 2023.
The municipality of Szalkszentmárton will have HUF 60 million to spend on the development of the Sándor Petőfi Memorial Exhibition. The money will be used to renovate the listed building housing the exhibition, which is one of the most authentic Petőfi memorial houses in the country. It was here that the famous Hungarian 19th century poet, Sándor Petőfi's parents ran a butcher's shop between 1844 and 1846, and where the poet wrote 112 poems, two plays and a novel. The project will also develop the exhibition for an interactive experience. The project will be launched in the framework of the Petőfi commemorative year as the poet was born in 1823.
