The Hungarian government has decided - following coordination with NATO - that the Pápa air base in northwestern Hungary will be upgraded into an intermodal logistics hub that will be suitable for receiving both military and civilian aircraft.
According to Hungarian Defense Minister Csaba Hende, a road and rail network could be developed in the region to serve the intermodal hub. He is of the view that the infrastructural developments will enable this region to attract further investments in the automotive, electronics and machinery industries.
