For the seventh year running, JYSK stores across the country are closed for Christmas. This year, the Danish home furnishing chain, which has more than 900 active employees in its domestic retail business, has won several prestigious employer awards - and the closure is in their interests. JYSK has also seen a steady stream of store openings this year, with the company's 101st store in Hungary opening in October 2024, and the renewal of existing stores is ongoing.
According to a company statement, JYSK's 101 stores across the country will be closed on December 24, helping to ensure that their employees can relax during the busy festive period. The few weeks leading up to Christmas are one of the busiest periods in retail, so after the peak period, JYSK stores will be closed on December 24 for the 7th year running. Stores will be open on December 22 and 23, with the first opening after the holidays on December 27.
For the third year in a row, JYSK has been included in Forbes' list of 850 companies as "The World's Best Employers". It has also been named one of the world's best companies by TIME magazine. In addition to the global accolades, JYSK's domestic organisation has also been a recipient of numerous awards. At the beginning of this year, JYSK was voted the 8th best employer in Hungary in the Top Employers Hungary list, and in February, the Top Employer Institute awarded the Top Employer prize for the second time to the company's retail division and the logistics center in Ecser.
JYSK's own employee satisfaction survey also confirms the company's initiatives for its employees. A total of 98% of JYSK employees took part in the survey, and the results show that the company's employees are more motivated, satisfied and loyal than average. JYSK scored 82 for job satisfaction, 88 for loyalty and 90 for commitment to core values.
Since January 2022, the average salary of JYSK store employees has increased by more than 45%. In addition, employees receive a high level of premium health insurance and sports membership contributions, and JYSK subsidises commuting to work by HUF 30 per kilometer per month. Every year, the company spends HUF millions on team building. Employees can also participate in a number of vocational training and education courses - for example, JYSK supports the acquisition of a forklift truck driver's licence - and mentoring programmes and training modules are also available. And for those preparing for management positions, there is the Talent Academy and the Manager Trainee Program. Indeed, JYSK's aim is to appoint 80% of managers in-house in the future, so that store employees also have an attractive career path.
"At JYSK, we are committed to creating a workplace where our employees feel valued and motivated in their daily work. It is important to us that our employees enjoy their time at JYSK, and work-life balance is essential for this. We strive to be responsive to our employees' needs and to maintain a working atmosphere in which they feel comfortable. That's why, for the seventh year in a row, we are closing our stores on 24 December, so that our retail colleagues can prepare for Christmas at home and relax after a very busy period", Ági Nyeste, Head of HR Manager for Hungary, Greece and Austria at JYSK points out.
