Budapest Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network and operator of the Hungarian capital's Ferenc Liszt International Airport, organized the Air Cargo Day conference for the eighth time, bringing together professionals from the cargo supply chain. The event was attended by more than 250 logistics professionals from nearly 30 countries to discuss current issues in the air freight sector.
According to a statement released, Terminal 1 of Ferenc Liszt International Airport once again hosted the Air Cargo Day Hungary conference. The event was attended by representatives of the International Air Cargo Association (TIACA), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the authorities and VINCI Airports, along with the experts of the international logistics and air cargo industry, and members of the Budapest cargo community, among others.
“Based on the joint evaluation of the Hungarian State and VINCI Airports, over the past year and a half, it has become clear that the acquisition of the airport was a successful investment, with air freight playing a significant role in the company’s operations,” Máté Lóga, chairman of the Board of Directors of Budapest Airport, said. He added that “logistics and freight transportation is the circulatory system of a country’s economy, and we can say that Budapest Airport has become the center of this circulation not only for Hungary, but also for the region. This is confirmed not only by the volume of goods handled, but also by the long-term operation and the improving return on investment. For the Hungarian economy, the development of the logistics industry is of paramount and strategic importance in terms of GDP, export-import and foreign investment."
The chief executive officer of Budapest Airport, Francois Berisot pointed out that "last year, the cargo volume registered by Budapest Airport approached the 300,000 ton mark, and this year this volume has already been surpassed. 400,000 tons for the full year has now become a realistic target.” He added that “by now, Budapest Airport has become one of the most dominant players in air cargo in Central and Eastern Europe, and the market leader in terms of the volume of cargo handled. This is a success story that requires a strategic approach, a strong cargo community and cross-border efforts, as symbolized by today’s event.”
At the event, Budapest Airport also received an important certification: thanks to the cooperation of our partners, the company’s cargo team was the first on the continent to introduce the IATA CEIV Lithium Batteries Certification, launched in a community approach. This certification provides a quality assured environment for handing and air transportation of battery-containing goods across the globe, and the community approach including all stakeholders can provide a closed supply and transportation chain.
