The Hungarian capital's Ferenc Liszt International Airport showed a significant increase in both passenger and cargo traffic in June. The number of passengers exceeded 1.5 million, which is higher than the data for the sixth month of the record year 2019 before the epidemic - based on the compilation of airportal.hu.
This is how the first six months of the year turned out for the airport:
In the first half of the year, the airport served a total of 7.88 million passengers, which represents an increase of 6.9 percent compared to the same period in 2019, and an 18 percent increase compared to last year.
The cargo business also produced outstanding results this June. Air freight traffic reached a record 25,001 tons, which is 9,136 tons (57.6%) more than the figure measured in the same month last year.
In the first half of the year, a total of 133,747 tons of goods were handled at the Budapest airport, which represents an increase of more than 46% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Based on the rolling data of the last twelve months (July 2023 - June 2024), the amount of goods handled continued to increase, reaching 243,601 tons.
The number of aircraft movements at the airport also increased: a total of 11,287 takeoffs and landings were registered in June, which is 14% more than last June's data and 2 percent more than 2019.
In the first half of the year, a total of 58,063 machine movements were recorded Ferenc Liszt International Airport, which represents an increase of more than 16% compared to last year.
The operator of the airport looks ahead with optimistic prospects, because they expect that this year, the number of passengers will exceed the record registered before the epidemic and reach or even exceed the previous peak of 16.2 million people.
