As in previous years, the retail chain opened ten new stores in Hungary this year and intends to maintain this pace of development in the future, the company told MTI on the occasion of the opening, on Friday, of its 182nd store in Hungary.
The supermarket chain's newest store is also its largest: the store in the 11th district of Budapest, with more than 1,800 square meters of selling space, is almost twice the size of an average Aldi.
The value of Aldi's investments in Hungary in 2024 was HUF 19.5 billion.
The group has increased its workforce by almost 10% this year in retail, logistics, administration and IT, and at the end of the year, it employed nearly 6,500 people in Hungary.
Around 60% of the supermarket chain's products are sourced from Hungary, but the proportion of Hungarian suppliers varies by product group. Aldi has around 270 supplier partners in Hungary, and its orders make a significant contribution to supporting the Hungarian agricultural and food processing industries, they said.
Aldi's turnover last year exceeded HUF 490 billion, up from HUF 417 billion in the previous year, and it posted a loss of HUF 9.5 billion after tax, compared with a profit of HUF 5.9 billion in the previous year, according to public company data.
