After a record first quarter, passenger traffic at Ferenc Liszt International Airport continues to climb steadily, the airport operator firm Budapest Airport has announced.
The airport handled 9,071,236 passengers in the first half of the year, 15% more than in the same period last year, which approaches the total passenger traffic of the entire year ten years ago. The sixth-monthly passenger number is a record in itself, with 1,697,371 passengers in June, 9% more than in 2024. The most popular destinations in the first month of summer were London, Istanbul and Milan.
The growth is driven by Hungary’s popularity, growing tourism and the increasing propensity by Hungarians to travel, supported by the greatest choice ever offered in the summer schedule.
Air cargo traffic is also setting new records in 2025; Budapest Airport handled 34,994 tons of cargo in June, a 40% increase compared to last year. Cargo performance in the first six months of the year broke all previous records with 199,319 tons, an increase of almost 50% compared to the first six months of 2024, exceeding the full year figure for 2022 and almost reaching the annual cargo volume handled in 2023. This further strengthens the role of Budapest Airport and the BUD Cargo City as a regional cargo hub.
