The three largest Hungarian mobile internet service providers have increased the roaming data allowance in their price plans, changed the composition of their subscription packages, and there has been no inflation-linked price adjustment this year, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) told MTI on Wednesday, based on its first-half summary of changes in mobile market price plans.
The announcement emphasizes that the NMHH's primary task is to monitor developments in the mobile market, with particular regard to changes in subscription packages.
The analysis for the first half of this year shows, among other things, that the three largest service providers increased the roaming data allowance in their tariff packages, changed the composition of their subscription packages, and did not adjust their tariffs in line with inflation this year.
Similar to previous years, the analysis reviews the mobile market situation in the first half of 2025 by presenting and comparing the publicly available residential subscription packages of the three largest mobile service providers: Magyar Telekom, One Hungary and Yettel Hungary.
The study reveals how mobile service tariff packages have been reorganized in recent months. At the beginning of the year, all three operators increased the roaming data allowance in their tariff packages in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2022/612 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
In the first half of the year, the companies renewed their subscription mobile phone tariff packages, introduced new packages, and, with the exception of One, discontinued the sale of the previous year's offers, they said.
They added that, compared to the previous two years, it was a favorable change for consumers that there was no inflation-linked price adjustment this year, which was partly due to consultations with the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) in April. As a result, all three service providers finally agreed to refrain from price adjustments for at least one year.
Since Yettel had already raised its prices by 3.7% on March 1, in May it introduced a one-year discount equal to the price adjustment, which was automatically granted to those affected.
Telekom announced in January that it would implement a 3.7% price increase in 2025, which it did, but then withdrew it after negotiations with the ministry, while One suspended the inflation adjustment promised for May until July 1, 2026, they explained.
The new tariff packages introduced by all three major service providers during the first half of the year are very similar to their previous ones. What they have in common is that the SMS messages and minutes included in the monthly fee can be used not only domestically but also in the EU, charged to the roaming allowance.
Telekom has retained its system of combining voice and data packages, which offers a wide range of options, but has reduced the number of packages in order to make the selection more transparent. Unlike in previous years, One did not discontinue the sale of its tariff packages introduced last year, but expanded its offering with three new tariff packages.
Yettel, on the other hand, completely replaced its packages, but the new ones do not differ much from the old ones – some of them even retained their names, with only minimal changes to their content, according to the announcement.
