In August 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4,676,000. The number of unemployed persons was 215,000 and the unemployment rate was 4.4%, Hungary's Central Statistical Office (KSH) reports.
In the period June–August 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4,679,000, 36,000 fewer than a year earlier. Among males, the number of employed people was down by 21,000 to 2,479,000, while among females it decreased by 15,000 to 2,200,000.
4,503,000 people worked in the domestic primary labour market, 50,000 fewer than in the same period of the previous year. The number of public workers was 72,000, while that of people working abroad was 105,000.
The employment rate for 15-64 year-olds was practically unchanged compared to the same period of the previous year at 75.4%, with a simultaneous decrease in the population and employment. This rate was 79.2% for men and 71.5% for women.
Unemployment, June–August 2025
In the June–August period of 2025 the average number of unemployed people aged 15–74 was 217,000, with an unemployment rate of 4.4%.
The number of unemployed was 115,000 for males and 102,000 for females. The rate was 4.4% for both sexes, practically the same as in June–August of the previous year.
The average duration of job search was 11.1 months, 45.6% of all unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while 29.6% had not found a job for at least a year.
According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service, the number of registered job seekers at the end of August 2025 decreased by 1.0% to 222,000 compared to a year earlier.
