Weerts Logistics Park (WLP), a Belgian-Hungarian owned company, has officially inaugurated its newest environmentally sustainable smart warehouse of nearly 40,000 sqm recently in Vecsés, just south of Budapest for Magna International Inc (Magna), one of the world's largest suppliers of automotive parts.
A statement by Weerts says the project, one of Hungary's largest industrial investments, is a significant milestone for the industrial development of the region. The modern and sustainable production hall built in Vecsés is exemplary not only in terms of its technological excellence but also in its environmentally friendly solutions. Once again, WLP has demonstrated its ability to deliver customized, complex industrial facilities ahead of schedule, while at the same time taking into account the interests of the local community and sustainability. With the delivery of the hall, WLP has successfully delivered on its commitments, supporting Magna's development, with the next milestone being the launch of component production for the target market expected by the end of 2025.
WLP has built the factory in strict compliance with the highest environmental standards, with a special focus on the local community and sustainability. The building was designed to achieve the prestigious BREEAM Excellent rating, which recognizes outstanding sustainability solutions such as rainwater recycling and energy efficient systems. Waste heat from the facility's machinery is integrated into the heating system, while a solar PV system is being installed over the entire roof surface, ensuring full green energy supply for the operation. WLP is continuously monitoring the environment to ensure that the operation of the plant does not cause environmental damage.
Known throughout Europe for building high-tech big box warehouses, WLP's investment in Vecsés is a modern industrial facility equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, which is divided into several units to support the manufacturing processes efficiently. The lowbay sector has a floor area of almost 26,000 sqm and is 14.5 m high, while the highbay sector has a floor area of 9,220 sqm and is 20 m high. The office section with open spaces and quiet rooms provides work space for hundreds of employees.
WLP and Magna's collaboration dates back to November 2023, when they successfully worked together in Hanover to build a 15,000 sqm hall with a height of 18 meters. The facility, developed by WLP, will provide its client with a state-of-the-art environment thanks to its automated systems and advanced technologies.
