CETIN Hungary has wound up a four-year network infrastructure modernization in which it invested HUF 102 billion, the integrated telecommunications infrastructure provider told MTI on Thursday.
The company said it is saving 9.9 GWh of electricity annually with the modernisation, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 4,500 Hungarian households.
The goal of the project was to reduce energy consumption, by decreasing per unit use, even as the amount of data transferred increased exponentially.
The first of the five pillars of the program developed for this purpose was the modernization of the mobile network. Compared to previous technologies, the biggest advantage of modern devices is that they are capable of combining different frequency bands, which results in significant energy savings. An important step was the development of a high-capacity, full-fledged 5G infrastructure, as this technology has the lowest specific energy consumption.
The second pillar of the program is the efficient management of energy consumption: the energy consumption of base stations has been optimized without compromising the user experience. The network adapts to current user needs and provides the appropriate capacity.
Subsequently, the power supply was modernized, and the modern equipment introduced operates with lower heat and conversion losses.
CETIN Hungary had HUF 73.6 billion net sales revenue last year.
