Genius Automotive Hungarian Subsidiary's CEE Expansion

Genius Automotive Europe Ltd., the Hungarian importer of the Omoda and Jaecoo car brands, has begun expanding in the Central and Eastern European region: at the end of October, it launched the distribution of the two brands of the Chinese Chery Group on the Romanian market, and in December, it will introduce them in Bulgaria, the company informed MTI.

Genius Automotive Europe Ltd. was established by two experienced players in the Hungarian new car trade, Hovány Ltd. and Petrányi Autó Ltd., for the exclusive import of Chery Group brands, with a registered capital of HUF 1 billion and a 50-50 ownership ratio.

The company began operations in early 2024 and currently works with 19 dealerships in Hungary. Of the 19 domestic dealerships, three are Hovány, two are Petrányi dealerships, and 14 partner companies are members of the network. According to plans, the network will expand further in 2026, with Omoda and Jaecoo models expected to be sold and serviced at 23-25 locations.

In Romania, a network of 25-30 dealerships is expected to be established, 12 of which will open in 2025, with the remaining locations joining in 2026. They described it as a particular success that Tiriac Auto, Romania's leading automotive company, is also opening Omoda/Jaecoo dealerships. Genius Automotive Europe Ltd. began distributing Omoda models in Hungary in October 2024 and has been selling Jaecoo models since 2025.

With these two brands, the company had a 2.2% market share in the Hungarian new car market by August 2025, which translates into 687 Omoda and 411 Jaecoo vehicles sold.
