The Cupra Terramar, which will soon go into production at Audi Hungaria's factory in Győr, NW Hungary, was unveiled in Barcelona on Wednesday. Some of the new models have already been produced in Győr and series production will start in the near future, with a capacity of around 300 units per day.
Michael Breme, chairman of the board of Audi Hungaria, told MTI that the Terramar will be built on the same platform as the Audi Q3, which will reduce investment costs and keep production levels high.
He stressed that they have no plans to produce models of other brands for the time being, their capacity utilization with the Q3 and Terramar models is close to 100%, while for the future he noted that they are adapting to any changes.
Zoltán Les, Member of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria responsible for vehicle production, said that they have been working on integrating the Terramar into the production system for more than two years, and have used every major downtime to do so. The biggest transformation has been in the body shop, where modifications have been made in almost every production cell, but there have also been major rebuilding works in the paint shop and the assembly plant.
After the production of several hundred pre-series vehicles, Terramar will soon start large-scale series production. The model will have a market launch of 3,700 units, after which it will be produced at a rate of around 300 units per day.
In Győr, the plan is to produce 770 vehicles per day, 60% of which will be Audi Q3 and 40% Cupra Terramar.
