COVID-19: Number of Fatalities Rise Slightly in Hungary

31, mostly elderly, chronic patients died last week (up from 30 in the previous week), bringing the official total number of deaths in this country to 48,738, the government's Coronavirus Press Center said on Wednesday.

830 new infections were confirmed in the past week (also slightly up from the previous week), bringing the total number of identified infections to 2,194,102 since the start of the outbreak.

The number of recovered cases increased to 2,141,720 while the number of active infected has fallen to 3,644.

There are currently 325 patients with the new coronavirus infection in hospital in Hungary, six of whom are on ventilators.

The number of people vaccinated against the coronavirus in Hungary is 6,421,732, of whom 6,208,908 received their second, 3,904,788 their third and 423,608 their fourth vaccination.

According to the statement, the epidemic in Hungary is currently "at a moderate level," thanks in part to the high vaccination rate. It was stressed that unvaccinated people remain the most at risk and are therefore still encouraged to get vaccinated.
