There are currently 727 patients with the new coronavirus infection in hospital in Hungary (almost twice as many as in the previous week), 36 of whom are on ventilators (four times the figure in the previous week), the government's Coronavirus Press Center said on Wednesday.
1,597 new infections were confirmed in the previous week, bringing the total number of identified infections to 2,190,334 since the start of the outbreak.
32, mostly elderly, chronic patients died last week, bringing the official total number of deaths in this country to 48,578. The number of recovered cases has fallen to 2,130,407 and the number of active infected to 11,349.
The number of people vaccinated against the coronavirus in Hungary is 6,420,987, of whom 6,207,423 received their second, 3,903,953 their third and 416,083 their fourth vaccination.
According to the statement, the epidemic in Hungary is currently "at a moderate level," thanks in part to the high vaccination rate. It was stressed that unvaccinated people remain the most at risk and are therefore still encouraged to get vaccinated.
